Capitol Hill, Saipan – Upon learning of the death of terrorist mastermind and Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden, Gov. Benigno R. Fitial issued the following statement:
“Today, justice has once again prevailed.
The spirit of victory for America has resonated across the nation. And while the families of the thousands of innocent victims of the 9/11 attacks cannot have the comfort of bringing back their loved ones; there is a deep sense of closure and redemption.
In this great Commonwealth, in this free country, there is no room for terror. Today, that bold message is made clear ever more.
Although the cost of freedom will always linger, we shall continue to pay tribute to all our brave men and women who risk their lives in the name of ours. Again, we pay proper tribute and homage to our fallen heroes who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Most especially, we remember our very own sons and daughters of the Commonwealth who have given their lives in the name of duty, honor and freedom.
We salute all who have served, all who serve, and all who will answer the call to serve!
While we find solace and consolation in knowing that the “face of terror” has fallen, we must remain vigilant and determined in ensuring the continued security of our islands, our people, and our country.
Our local government will continue to work with our national counterparts to ensure that the fundamental principles of national security remain a top priority.
In God we trust, and in Him, we shall always reign victorious.”
