Monsoon Threatens To Bring Strong Winds and Rain

The following is the latest statement regarding the monsoon disturbance being monitored by the Homeland Security & Emergency Management Agency:

“Based on the information received from the National Weather Service -Tiyan Guam and compiled at the CNMI Emergency Operation Center State Warning Point, a¬†monsoon surge will bring fresh to strong southwest winds and combined seas building to over 10 feet to the Marianas the next few days.

…HIGH SURF ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CHST MONDAY…

Along west facing reefs…surf will become hazardous at 7 to 9 feet tonight and build to 9 to 11 feet on Saturday.

Surf will remain hazardous on Sunday.

…SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CHST MONDAY…

Southwest winds of 25 knots and combined seas of 9 to 13 feet will produce hazardous conditions for operators of small craft.

…PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

Therefore, Acting Governor Victor B. Hocog is advising the general public and the inexperience mariners especially those operating smaller vessels…should avoid sailing in these conditions and to avoid venturing near exposed reefs and beaches…especially those facing west…as rip currents will be life threatening.”
