Capitol Hill, Saipan – Following the resignation of former governor Benigno R. Fitial, then Lt. Governor Eloy S. Inos was installed as Governor and then Senate President Jude U. Hofschneider as Lt. Governor in a simple Oath of Office Ceremony held at 2:00 pm at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center.
Gov. Inos’ oath of office was administered by Chief Justice Alexandro Castro, while Presiding Judge Robert Naraja swore-in Lt. Gov. Hofschneider.
In a somber address to those present in the ceremony, Gov. Inos reported on the former governor’s unexpected resignation from office earlier this morning. Both Inos and Hofschneider also lauded Fitial for his many years of service and asked the people to remember the former governor for the many accomplishments he has made to bring people together, both as a legislator and as a governor.
Following their official installation as Governor and Lt. Governor, the new administration announces that they are ready to get to work to continue tackling the pressing issues of the Commonwealth.
Gov. Inos and Lt. Gov. Hofschneider respectfully call upon all the CNMI’s elected leaders and the people to work together to achieve positive results for every citizen who call the Northern Marianas home.
“These are very difficult and trying times,” said Inos. “It’s time to move on. There will be no overnight fix, but we are committed to working hard to find sensible solutions.”
For his part, Hofschneider added, “As your Lt. Governor, I pledge to carry on the torch that been lit, unite our Commonwealth, and work towards a brighter future for our people and our islands.”
